Global Blood Oxygen Sensor Market Overview

Blood oxygen sensor which is also known as pulse oximetry is a device that measures the oxygen saturation level or the oxygen level in the blood. It is a noninvasive and painless test that can detect the change in the amount of oxygen carried from the heart to the other body parts, including the legs and the arms. The pulse oximetry is a small, clip like device that attaches to the parts like finger, toes or earlobe. The device passes two beam of light with different wavelength which is further detected by a photodetector. Thus, measures the changing absorbance of each wavelength, allowing it to determine absorbance due to  the pulsing arterial blood alone, excluding venous blood, skin, bone, muscle, fat. Blood oxygen sensor is often used in a critical care setting like emergency rooms and hospital. Blood oxygen sensor can be used to monitor the health of the patient suffering from conditions related to blood oxygen level such as asthma, lung cancer, anemia, heart attack etc.

Rising prevalence of diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea, cardiac arrhythmia, and ischemic conditions is the primarily driving factor for the growth of the target market. In addition, there are various technological advancements to ensure increased efficiency and accuracy of these devices, to make them more user-friendly are other factors further expected to drive the target market growth over forecast period. Due to the increasing number of surgeries and emphasis on patient safety while under anesthesia there is a high demand of handheld pulse oximeters thus propelling the growth of the target market. Also handheld devices are preferred more for long-term monitoring in hospitals and emergency rooms. Fingertip oximeters significantly has high demand owing to ease of use, wide and easy availability over-the-counter, and various other benefits.

The global blood oxygen sensor market can be fragmented into three categories on the basis of product type, end-user and region. Based on product type the global blood oxygen sensor market can be classified into disposable and repeatable. On the basis of end-user global blood oxygen sensor market bifurcated into sub-segments including hospital, clinic and home care settings.  Among the end-user segment, revenue generation from hospitals and other healthcare facilities is higher as compared others and is expected to maintain its dominance in the future.

On the basis of region, the global market can be classified into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. Among all the regions, North America has accounted for highest revenue contribution to the global blood oxygen sensor market and is further expected to maintain its dominance during the forecast period. This is due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) making it mandatory for CCHD screening of newborns in the US in 2014. The global blood oxygen sensor market in Asia Pacific is expected to witness the fastest growth in the forecast period owing to increasing investment by various players operating in the region and launch of new and innovative products in this region.

Key players operating in the global blood oxygen sensor market are Cypress Semiconductor Corporation, Philips, Siemens AG, On semiconductor Corporation, Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc., Renesas Electronics Corp, Tekscan,Inc., and Ge Healthcare Inc.
