Recent News:

  • Mitsui intends to invest in a lithium-ion battery recycling factory in Japan beginning in May 2024. Mitsui & Co., Ltd. has agreed to launch a joint venture with VOLTA INC. and Miracle Eternal PTE LTD to recycle lithium-ion batteries. J-Cycle Inc., a newly formed joint venture, was established to start operations at a battery recycling facility in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, by September of the same year, subject to the appropriate permits and approvals. J-Cycle Inc. wants to manufacture and distribute black mass from discarded batteries and debris generated during battery manufacturing. This attempt combines Mitsui's extensive experience in battery-related businesses, understanding of battery recycling, and global relationships with VOLTA's management acumen and Miracle Eternal's proficiency in acquiring raw materials from international markets.
  • The Technology Development Board (TDB) announced a deal with startup Remine India in April 2024 to create a commercial business in Uttarakhand for recycling lithium-ion batteries and e-waste. According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the arrangement provides TDB with Rs 7.5 crore in financial assistance for the Rs 15 crore project. TDB's participation in this project would enable informal recyclers to connect with official recyclers, thereby contributing to a circular economy. The TDB reports to the Department of Science and Technology.
