1 4 Butanediol Market Size
The 1,4-Butanediol Market Size was valued at US$ 7.5 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.3% to reach US$ 18.3 billion by 2034
1,4-Butanediol (C4H10O2) is an organic compound known as 1,4-Butylene glycol or BDO. It is a widely used chemical intermediate in several sectors. It is a thick, colorless liquid with a faint smell. A member of the diol family of compounds, 1,4-butanediol is composed of carbon chains with two hydroxyl groups (-OH) attached. The chemical known as "1,4-Butanediol" has two hydroxyl groups attached to its first and fourth carbon atoms, making it a four-carbon chain. Owing to its unique properties and composition, 1,4-butanediol is a valuable raw material that may be utilized to produce several products.
It is mostly used to produce polyesters, such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polybutylene succinate (PBS). Due to their high mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance, these technical polymers are extensively employed in the consumer goods, automotive, and electrical sectors. Furthermore, tetrahydrofuran (THF), a versatile solvent used in paints, adhesives, and medications, is derived from 1,4-butanediol. Another product created with it is gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), which is used as an intermediary for manufacturing pyrrolidone solvents and pharmaceutical intermediates.
