Recent News:

  • In August 2023, researchers at Michigan State University announced the development of a new biodegradable plastic substitute that is easier to compost. According to the university's School of Packaging, the researchers developed a bio-based polymer blend that can be composted in both residential and industrial settings, which published their findings in the peer-reviewed ACS Publications journal last week. According to team leader Rafael Auras, biodegradable plastics can reduce waste from single-use plastics such as straws and water bottles. Auras expects that the research will help to reduce plastic waste worldwide.
  • Sulzer introduced a unique biodegradable polymer for bioplastics in December 2023. Sulzer, a Swiss technology company, is expanding its bioplastics portfolio with the launch of CAPSULTM, a new end-to-end licensed technology for the continuous production of polycaprolactone (PCL), a biodegradable polyester widely used in the packaging, textile, agricultural, and horticultural industries. The most popular uses for high-quality PCL are consumer packaging, 3D printing, footwear, agricultural films, textiles, and medical devices.
