Peptide Synthesis Market Overview

Peptide Synthesis Market was valued at US$ 5.5 Billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.70% to reach US$ 5.7 Billion by 2034.

Peptide are amino acids which makes up certain proteins that are needed by skin. Addition of peptides helps in stimulation of skin for making collagen. Pituitary gland produces peptides. Peptidyl transferase act as an enzyme for peptide synthesis. Peptidyl transferase are located in larger ribosomal subunit where it help in catalyzing peptide bond formation. Examples of peptide includes, glutathione that stimulates growth of tissue, hormone oxytocin, pancreatic hormone insulin, melittin a honey bee venom, and glucagon a hyperglycemic factor. Peptide Synthesis is the formation of peptide bond between two amino acids. Peptide Synthesis refers to flexible chains up to 30-50 amino acids. The process of making short sequences of polypeptides by adding one amino acid at a time is called as peptide synthesis. Peptide Synthesis is used for creating specific sequences which represent epitopes of certain protein domains which may or may not be modified by phosphate groups. Peptide Synthesis is occurred by coupling of carboxyl group of incoming amino acid to N-terminus of growing peptide chain. Peptide Synthesis is the process where short sequences are prepared by addition of one amino acid at a time. Peptide Synthesis process is used for creating specific sequences which represent epitopes of certain protein domains which may or may not be modified by moieties like phosphate groups. Peptide Synthesis process allows to reduce the cause & length of chain branching. Peptide Synthesis takes place in ribosomes. Peptide are formed when condensation reaction takes place between carboxyl group of one amino acid & other amino group, ribosomes are the site of synthesis of proteins. However, rising research & development activities and wide use of peptide in pharmaceutical industries has given positive impact on target market growth.

Peptide Synthesis Market Dynamics

Rising research & development activities, and wide use in pharmaceutical & biotechnology industries is one of the leading factors for the Peptide Synthesis Market growth. Rise in diseases due to unhealthy lifestyle & urbanization has given rise in research & development activities and growth in pharmaceutical industries. Therapeutic peptides are widely used in pharmaceutical industries in medicines as it act as growth factors, hormones, ion channel ligands, neurotransmitters and anti-effective agents. Peptides are most commonly used in creating drugs for treating various diseases. Peptides are used in treating type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and multiple sclerosis. Peptides are used in medicinal biotechnology as it possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-clotting effects among others. In pharmaceutical industries peptides has proved effective for multitude of disease state which includes, type 2 diabetes that are controlled by using licensed glucagon like peptide-1 receptor liraglutide, acromegaly is treated with octapeptide somatostatin analogues, and irritable bowel syndrome is managed with linaclotide. Therapeutic peptides act as growth factors, hormones, ion channel ligands, neurotransmitters and as anti-effective agents and thus used in medicines. Milk related bioactive peptides are commercially important. Membrane separation and chromatography techniques are applied in production of milk derived bioactive peptides. Peptide vaccines has wide variety of benefits as they allow vaccines to target specific epitopes while minimizing risk of allergic & autoimmune reactions. Use of peptides as immunogens offer advantages by lowering vaccine production cost & lead times. Solid phase peptide synthesis has major advantages like easy purification, precedent in synthesis of large peptides and rapid generation of linear peptide intermediates, etc. Synthetic peptides are used in research for polypeptide structural & functional studies, for antibody production, as hormone analogues, and as peptide hormones. Synthetic peptides are also used in designing novel enzymes, vaccines and drugs. Peptides like insulin are used as drug that controls metabolism of cyclosporine, sugar which suppresses rejection of organ after transplants. For instance, in 2021 Scientists at Imperial College London has developed new peptide manufacturing method ‘PEPSTAR’ which helps in improving efficiency of drug manufacturing processes and thus could produce cheaper medicines. Newly developed technique ‘PEPSTAR’ has ability to be scaled up for commercial use & extend to the production of other sequence defined polymers in various applications. Newly developed technique ‘PEPSTAR’ includes, quenching, coupling amino acid to ‘nanostar’ support, removing Fmoc protecting group, & filtering out reaction debris by membrane to effect nanostar sieving. However, growth in research & development activities, and wide use in pharmaceutical & biotechnology industries has boosts the demand for Peptide Synthesis Market.

Restrains:

Peptides alone are weakly immunogenic, has poor release properties, can easily go enzymatic degradation, etc. There are no any side effects of peptide but if it is misused then it causes headache, reaction at injection site like swelling & redness, increase in fluid retention, etc. Biggest limitation of peptide based drugs are poor oral adsorption, in vivo instability and membrane permeability which hinder their therapeutic effectiveness. However, some limitations and poor release properties of peptide synthesis may somewhat restrain the target market growth.
