Global Tubatoxin Market Overview

Tubatoxin, also known as rotenone, is an odorless, colorless, crystalline isoflavone which occurs naturally in the seeds and stems of several plants, such as the jicama vine plant, and the roots of several members of Fabaceae. Tubatoxin is a naturally occurring chemical found in certain plants such as Derris and Lonchocarpus. It is commercially used as an insecticide and pesticide owing to its insecticidal and pesticidal properties. In addition, it is used as a piscicide. Tubatoxin has been used as an organic pesticide in gardens and cultivation fields. Rotenone has been used by government agencies to kill fish in rivers and lakes in the United States since 1952.  Small-scale sampling with rotenone is used by fish researchers studying the biodiversity of marine fishes to collect cryptic, or hidden, fishes, which represent an important component of shoreline fish communities. Rotenone is the most effective tool available because only small quantities are necessary. It has only minor and transient environmental side effects.  Rotenone is also used in powdered form to treat scabies and head lice on humans, and parasitic mites on chickens, livestocks and pet animals. Unselective in action, it kills potato beetles, cucumber beetles, flea beetles, cabbage worms, raspberry beetles and asparagus beetles, as well as most other arthropods. It biodegrades rapidly in soil, with 90% degraded after 1–3 months at 20 °C (68 °F) and three times faster at 30 °C (86 °F).

Impact of COVID-19 on the market

Biopharmaceutical firms are at the leading position of the human response to the coronavirus pandemic. A significant number of foremost biotech organizations are in the middle of a race to examine the Sars-Cov-2 genome and formulate a viable vaccine for the same. As compared to the speed of response to SARS/MERs etc, the biotech entities are investigating SARs-Cov-2 at an unprecedented rate and a significant amount of funds are being put into the R&D. With the several candidates in trial, the public and private sectors are expected to work in unison for the estimative period, until a vaccine is developed for Covid-19. This report will quantify the impact of this pandemic on the tubatoxin market.

Global Tubatoxin Market Drivers & Restraints

Demand for organic pesticides and insecticides

Organic pesticides can allow farmers to control pest and diseases in plants without resorting to conventional pesticides. Natural or organic pesticides are more environmentally-friendly and safer for the user. Most organic pesticides break down naturally, reducing the chance of polluting or contaminating the soil or water. When applied correctly, they can be very effective at pest control. Insecticides is effective for the following reason increased yields of crops because of protection from defoliation and diseases; prevention of much spoilage of stored foods; and prevention of certain diseases, which conserves health and has saved the lives of millions of people and domestic animals.

Used as a piscicide and acaricide

Retenone is an insecticide and piscicide extracted from Leguminosa plants. It is highly lipophilic and readily crosses the blood–brain barrier and enters all cells freely independent of a specific transporter.

Conversely, high cost of extraction of tubatoxin is anticipated to hamper the growth of the tubatoxin market during the forecast period.
