Seed treatment can also be referred as seed dressing is chemical or biological substances that are applied to seeds to control disease organisms, insects, and other pests. Seed treatment prevents spreading of diseases on plant, protects seed from seed rot and seedling blights, improves germination, and controls soil insects. Environmental impact of the seed treatment is less and this treatment is widely used in eradicating pathogens that are seed borne like bunt or smut from wheat, oats, barley etc. The treatment of seeds is carried out in 3 different methods; Seed dressing, Seed Coating, and Seed pelleting. The main purpose of seed treatment is protecting the seeds and seedlings from seed and soil borne diseases and insect pests affecting crop emergence and its growth.
