Global Proteinase K Market Overview
Proteinase K is a subtilisin-related serine protease broad spectrum with great particular activity. It is capable of digesting keratin, which is a hair protein, hence the name, Proteinase K. Proteinase K splits the top part of the peptide bond adjacent to the carboxyl group and aromatic amino acids present in the protein. It is generally used in molecular biology to digest protein and take out the impurities from preparations of nucleic acids. It is used for the wrecking of proteins in cell lysates such as tissue, and cell culture cells. Also, it helps in releasing the nucleic acid and purification of the genomic DNA from the bacteria. It is active in a broad spectrum of temperatures. A pH between 7.5- 12 with a temperature between 20°C- 60°C, it buffers with an optimal activity. Global Proteinase K market is continuously witnessing positive development paying to more significant research & development tasks and investing in research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and biopharmaceutical companies for innovation.
Global Proteinase K Market Drivers & Restraints
Increasing prevalence of chronic diseases
According to a World Health Organisation report, the burden of chronic diseases is rapidly increasing worldwide. The growth of the proteinase K market is mainly uplifted by the expanding prevalence of chronic diseases. It has been calculated that, in 2001, chronic diseases contributed approximately 60% of the 56.5 million total reported deaths in the world and approximately 46% of the global burden of disease.
Increasing demand for gene therapy
According to Gene Therapy Net, Glybera (Alipogene tiparvovec) is a gene therapy treatment designed to reverse lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD), a rare inherited disorder that can cause severe pancreatitis. In July 2012, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended it for approval and the recommendation was endorsed by the European Commission in November 2012. With this, stability and low production cost of proteinase K are estimated to rise global proteinase K market over the forecast period.
However, the availability of other proteases is expected to hinder the growth of the global proteinase K market. There are various substitutes available for proteinase K such as pepsinogen, which is also a broad-spectrum protease and possesses less specific activity than proteinase K. For instance, Nagarse is another substitute for proteinase K and is less costly than proteinase K.
