Global Mandarin Oil Market Overview

Mandarin is also known to be the sweetest and the most calming of all citrus essential oils. Mandarin essential oil is orange-brown to dark-yellowish-brown or olive-brown in colour. It is a mobile liquid with an intensely sweet, not necessarily fresh odour, with a fishy like top note.

The odour is due to the presence of methyl-N-methyl-anthranilate. Mandarin is extensively used in flavours, where it gives interesting modifications with sweet and bitter orange oils, grapefruit and lime oil in flavour compositions for soft drinks, candy and liqueurs. Mandarin essential oil is a soothing, cheering and a gentle essential oil. It has uplifting and balancing qualities and is emotionally comforting. Mandarin essential oil is useful in body skincare blends especially for softening stretch marks.

Global Mandarin Oil Market Drivers & Restraints

Preference for Natural or Organic

A notable shift in consumer tastes has occurred in the 21st century where they expressly prefer natural or organic products. Mandarin oil, as one of the essential oils, is perfectly placed to benefit from this as it is mild enough to use without fear in aromatherapy. While essential oils have been popular in developed countries for some time now, they have become much more so in emerging economies led by China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Mandarin oil has no side effects unlike conventional drugs which go a long way in raising the profile of the mandarin oil market. As per the International Trade Centre (ITC) publications, organic bergamot orange oil (cold-pressed and sourced from Italy) was over 2.6 times costlier than conventional bergamot oil during 2014–2015.

Consumers Favoring Flavor Enhancers in Food & Beverage Products

Mandarin oils are used in the food and beverage industry for various applications to improve flavor and other certain functional properties. Mandarin oil is usually used in applications such as bakery & confectionery and carbonated & non-carbonated beverages. The other factor which is increasing the adoption of mandarin in food and beverage products is growing consumer preference for fortified foods or foods enriched with beneficial ingredients such as antioxidants and vitamins. Consumer preference for flavors and oils beyond traditional choices of orange and lemon has been witnessing a significant rise in recent years, globally. This demand is leading to higher sales of less popular varieties such as mandarin orange oil and several other types of citrus oil blends, thereby aiding the growth of the citrus oil market.

Conversely, relatively high price is anticipated to hamper the growth of the Mandarin Oil market during the forecast period.
