Global Inertial Measurement Unit Market Overview

Inertial Measurement Unit Market accounted for USD 19.05 Billion in 2020 and is estimated to be USD 31.81 Billion by 2030 and is anticipated to register a CAGR of 5.30%

An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is a device that measures and reports a body's specific force, angular rate, and sometimes the orientation of the body, employing a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and sometimes magnetometers. IMUs are typically used for maneuver aircraft (an attitude and heading reference system), including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), among many others, and spacecraft, including satellites and landers. Recent developments leave the assembly of IMU-enabled GPS devices.

An IMU allows a GPS receiver to figure when GPS-signals are unavailable, like in tunnels, inside buildings, or when electronic interference is present. An inertial measurement unit works by detecting linear acceleration using one or more accelerometers and rotational rate using one or more gyroscopes. Some also include a magnetometer which is usually used as a heading reference. Typical configurations contain one accelerometer, gyro, and magnetometer per axis for every of the three principal axes: pitch, roll and yaw.

Global Inertial Measurement Unit Market Drivers & Restraints

Rise in number of application

The growth of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) market is essentially fueled by the increase within the number of applications, technological advancements, and therefore the increasing demand in emerging countries of Asia-Pacific. Furthermore, the expansion are often attributed to the increasing demand for accuracy in navigation aids and emergence of MEMS systems. The MEMS technology played a serious role in expanding the appliance base for inertial measurement systems, by cutting down the dimensions and power consumption of those devices, without compromising on their performance metrics. However, as IMU is usually being hooked in to MEMS, the development within the accuracy of an IMU with inertial sensors is being limited, like putting the entire shebang during a constant temperature oven or adding data from other non-inertial sensors, like a magnetometer or a motion capture system.
