Long Straight Shank – it fit into the nose cone of slower speed handpiece once the contra angle is removed. Finishing Burs – these heads are used for finishing restorations, alveolaplasty, soft tissue recontouring, odontoplasty, and enameloplasty. These heads can be obtained as 12 and 30 bladed burs in carbide steel and diamond heads of different shapes. They are available as green stone for amalgam and white stone for composite. Crosscut Tapered Fissure Head – are used for sectioning multi-rooted teeth and help in reducing crown height while disarming dogs. Its most useful sizes are 701/701L and 700/700L. Round Head – are used for preparation of cavity, undercuts & channels, creating access points for luxator blades in extraction. Its size ranges from 1/4 to 9. Pear Head – are used for access points, cavity preparation and splitting roots of small teeth. Most useful sizes are 330 and 330L. There are different types of burs such as, Diamond burs are made from world’s hardest material, and are used for polishing teeth and during requirement of smooth cutting. Diamond burs are durable and last longer. Carbide burs offer smooth finishing on teeth, and are used in preparing teeth for dental fillings & shaping of bones. Steel burs are used for preparing tooth for cavity treatment. Ceramic burs are used for adjusting acrylic pieces which are used in dental procedures.
