Antithrombin Market Overview

Antithrombin Market size accounted for USD 577.2 Million in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 849.87 Million by 2030 and is anticipated to register a CAGR of 4.3%.

Antithrombin is the substance present in the blood. Antithrombin helps limit the blood's ability to coagulate. Antithrombin is the plasma protein. Antithrombin acts as an important regulator in blood coagulation. Antithrombin is an important physiological anticoagulant that inactivates multiple coagulation factors and thrombin. During DIC (disseminated vascular coagulation), antithrombin strongly inhibits the over-activation of the coagulation system. Antithrombin is approved by the FDA as an anticoagulant before or during surgery for the prevention of clots. Antithrombin drugs are low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), unfractionated heparin (UFH), bivalirudin, and fondaparinux.

Mutations in the SERPINC1 gene cause hereditary antithrombin deficiency. Clot-busting drugs are called thrombolytic drugs which break up and dissolve blood clots. Streptase (streptokinase), Eminase (anistreplase), and Retavase (reteplase) are examples of thrombolytic drugs. Tissue plasminogen activator is the common drug used for thrombolytic therapy. Anticoagulants help in preventing blood clots. Dabigatran (Pradaxa), edoxaban (Lixiana), rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and apixaban (Eliquis) are the examples of anticoagulants. When there is a disruption in the flow of blood anticoagulants are used. The rise in surgeries has given rise in the use of Antithrombin thus resulting in the growth of the market.

Antithrombin Market Drivers & Restraints

Rise in surgical procedures

Rise in surgical procedure is one of the leading factors for the global antithrombin market growth. Rise in prevalence of disease has led to increase in surgical procedures. DTo ease the paiun and for treatment of diseases the surgical procedures are performed. Increase in chronic diseases like heart, kidney disease has given rise in surgeries. Purpose of surgery is to improve the physical appearance, transplant tissue or whole organs, repairing diseased tissue or organs, to reposition the structure to its normal position. Antithrombin is used before, after and during the surgical procedures which helps in preventing the blood clots. For instance, in 2002, the Antithrombin III concentrate was used to treat the heparin resistance in patients who were undergoing the cardiac surgery. Treatment with Antithrombin III concentrate was resulted in giving potentiality of heparin effect to meet the activated clotting time and thus allowed for cardiac surgery. However, the growth in surgical procedures has boosts the demand for antithrombin market.

Rise in antithrombin deficiency and demand for antithrombin

Rise in antithrombin deficiency and demand for antithrombin has become the major factor in growth of antithrombin market. Deficiencies of anticoagulants and antithrombin gives rise to high risk of thrombophilias. Maintaining adequate levels of antithrombin is very important to prevent high risk thrombophilias. Antithrombin also has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and great affinity for thrombin. Due to its remarkable properties antithrombin are high in demand. Antithrombin is complex molecule with biological properties.  For instance, in 2013, the clinical use and Italian demand for antithrombin has increased due to its remarkable properties. For instance, in 2009, use of antithrombin concentrates prothrombin complex concentrates were recommended therapeutically in primary and acquired antithrombin deficiency.

Restrains:

However, risk of blood borne diseases may somewhat restrain the growth of the target market.
