Acrylonitrile Market Overview

Acrylonitrile is an organic compound due to the presence of hydrogen and carbon in its structure with the formula CH 2CHCN and the structure H2C=CH-C=N and acrylonitrile is used in many industries, it is also used to make acrylic fibers, certain plastics. , rubber and chemicals, and was formerly used as an insecticide. In the plant where it is produced, acrylonitrile is a colorless, liquid and is a highly volatile and toxic, man-made chemical with a pungent, onion- or garlic-like odor. Acrylonitrile is readily absorbed into the systemic circulation after exposure by inhalation or ingestion. After inhalation of acrylonitrile by humans, about 50% of the administered dose of acrylonitrile is absorbed, acrylonitrile is the most common organic solvent such as acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl acetate and toluene, and it melts at 84 degrees Celsius and boils at 77 degrees. Acrylonitrile is obtain commercially by the process of propylene ammoxidation, among propylene, ammonia and air are reacted in a fluidized bed in the presence of a catalyst. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene is a common thermoplastic used to make lightweight rigid, molded products such as pipes, automotive body parts, wheel covers, enclosures, and protective head gear. Acrylonitrile is a versatile and reactive monomer that, due to its polar nature and reactivity, can be polymerized under a wide variety of conditions and copolymerized with a wide range of other vinyl monomers. Acrylonitrile can be polymerized into a material called polyacrylonitrile, and polyacrylonitrile fibers can be used for a range of products such as fishing poles, bicycle frames and tennis rackets. The market is expected to grow in the coming years due to increasing demand for acrylic fibers made from acrylonitrile.

Acrylonitrile Market Dynamics

Increasing demand in manufacturing of electronics and High volatility of raw materials

In the near future, the Acrylonitrile Market is expected to be driven by significant demand in the construction industry for making headliners, interior grills, center consoles, and others, and increasing awareness about wastewater treatment is likely to increase the use of acrylonitrile products. The increasing demand and use of acrylonitrile in the manufacturing of industrial electronic and consumer goods and increasing construction as well as rapid expansion of the plastics and chemicals sector is expected to provide many opportunities for market growth in the coming years. However, the occupational hazards associated with acrylonitrile and components such as highly flammable and toxic at low doses that pose environmental hazards, the rapid expansion of the construction industry and the high volatility of crude oil and raw materials are expected to hamper growth market

Technological advancement

Manufacturers involved in the acrylonitrile market are developing advanced versions of their products due to new age technological advancements. As global producers focus on developing sustainable production technologies to overcome health and environmental threats, market participants with unintegrated raw material supply also focus on developing long-term contracts to maintain continuous supply. In October 2022, 3D printing and wire harness assembly, harness assemblers are using additive manufacturing to make custom connectors and assembly fixtures. This year the harness produces 3D printing used for basic jigs and tooling, connectors needed for prototyping applications or continuity testing of finished harnesses. 3D printer introduced machines that enable companies to economically print a wide range of connectors and fixtures. Wire Harness Manufacturing Cesar-Scott Inc. It also relies on an FDM-based 3D printer to manufacture the connector holder. Their atomic industrial printers make PLA or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene parts in a 12-inch-square working envelope.

Recent Development

  • In April 2022, Charleston, W.Va. A pilot facility currently under construction in, produced renewable acrylonitrile without the need for conventional petroleum-based propylene as feedstock. Since ACN is the raw material used to make carbon fiber, ACN's new route allows the production of bio-based carbon fiber. Acrylonitrile is also used as a raw material for acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene plastic, acrylic fiber, nitrile butadiene rubber, and acrylamide.
  • In August 2022, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, announced the construction of the world's first and largest carbon fiber plant in Hazira, Gujarat. The plants will have a capacity of 20,000 MTPA based on acrylonitrile feedstock.
