Gas Engine Market is estimated to be US$ 8.6 billion by 2032; Increasing Demand for Transportation and Infrastructure Availability to Propel Market Growth

Published Date: July 2023

Gas Engine also known as a gasoline engine or petrol engine, is a type of internal combustion engine that runs on gasoline as its primary fuel source. Gas engines are commonly used in a variety of applications, including automobiles, motorcycles, small aircraft, power generators, lawn mowers, and other power equipment. The basic principle of a gas engine involves the controlled combustion of a fuel-air mixture within a combustion chamber. The combustion process generates energy in the form of high-pressure gases, which are harnessed to produce mechanical work.

The growth of the global population, urbanization, and economic development has led to a surge in the demand for transportation, particularly automobiles. Gas Engines Market have been the dominant power source for vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles, due to their efficiency, power output, and availability of gasoline fuel.  The widespread availability of gasoline infrastructure, including fuel stations, has supported the growth of gas engines. The established network of gas stations enables convenient refueling, making gas engines a practical choice for transportation and other applications. This infrastructure advantage has contributed to the dominance of gas engines in the automotive industry.

The report “Gas Engine Market, By Fuel Type (Natural Gas and Other Fuel Types), By End-user Industry (Utilities, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Transportation, and Other End-user Industries), and By Region (North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa) - Trends, Analysis and Forecast till 2032”

 Key Highlights:

  • In November 2022, The Weichai Group launched the world’s first commercial diesel engine with base engine’s thermal efficiency of 52.28% and natural gas engine with base engine’s thermal efficiency of 54.16%. At a launch event where the engines were unveiled, high-ranking Chinese governmental and academic figures were present. The engines' brake thermal efficiency (BTE) was verified by certificates from Germany's TÜV Süd. Weichai has received congratulations letters from representatives of Bosch, SwRI, AVL, as well as a number of engineering associations, business organizations, and strategic partners.
  • In June 2020, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. launched the completion of endurance testing and start of sales for their new-model KG-18-T gas engine, a newly developed product with a two-stage turbocharging system and the world-leading electrical efficiency in its class worldwide. It has been added to the portfolio of Kawasaki Green Gas Engines as a high-efficiency model. The new model uses a newly created two-stage turbocharging system to increase power generating efficiency by 1.5% in comparison to existing Kawasaki models, giving it a world-leading efficiency of 51.0% in its output class globally. It has an output of 7,800 kW at 50 Hz and 7,500 kW at 60 Hz.It is intended to meet the environmental performance requirements required by many cities, with NOx emissions limited to 200 ppm*2 or less.

Analyst View:

As emerging economies continue to grow and urbanize, the demand for transportation and power generation is expected to increase. Gas engines, with their affordability and established infrastructure, will be a preferred choice in these regions. Additionally, the growth of industries such as construction, agriculture, and power generation in emerging economies will drive the demand for gas engines in non-automotive applications. Further, engine downsizing, turbocharging, direct fuel injection, and variable valve timing are some of the technologies that will contribute to the future growth of Gas Engine Market.
